ICQ/Yahoo!

When you have oceanfree.net Instant Messenger, you can use it to send or receive messages to/from ICQ and Yahoo! members without running either of their programs.

To connect ICQ or Yahoo! through oceanfree.net Instant Messenger:

Before you begin, make sure you are not running ICQ or Yahoo! Instant Instant Messenger.

a) If you are already an oceanfree.net Instant Messenger user: From the Login menu, select Connect to ICQ/Yahoo!. The ICQ/Yahoo! Account Details window opens.

b) If you are new to oceanfree.net Instant Messenger, you will be asked to enter your personal details when you first install oceanfree.net Instant Messenger. At the bottom of the first window of the Personal Details Wizard you will have the option to "extend your reach to other networks". Click the ICQ/Yahoo! button to open the ICQ/Yahoo! Account Details window.

Fill in your ICQ/Yahoo! ID and Password and check the "Automatically connect to ICQ/Yahoo! when opening oceanfree.net Instant Messenger" checkbox. By the way, if you leave the box unchecked, you will always be able to connect to ICQ/Yahoo! later by using the "Connect to ICQ/Yahoo!" option from the Login menu.

Now, you are able to send and receive messages from ICQ or Yahoo! members. You can further extend your connectivity by importing your ICQ and Yahoo! buddies to oceanfree.net Instant Messenger's Friends List.

To do that, go to the Friends List Tab:

Now click the oceanfree.net Instant Messenger Features button:

Finally, select Import ICQ or Import Yahoo! Friends. Your ICQ and Yahoo! friends are then treated just like any other oceanfree.net Instant Messenger users - they can be Online, Away or Offline.

You can also add any ICQ or Yahoo! user to your Friends List by clicking the oceanfree.net Instant Messenger Features Button (when you are using the Friends Tab) and selecting Add ICQ/Yahoo! Friend.

If ICQ users (that don't yet have oceanfree.net Instant Messenger!) would like to add you to their ICQ buddy lists, they can do so - and won't even notice you're using oceanfree.net Instant Messenger. If you have set your ICQ preferences so that you need to authorize such an action, you will get this authorization request in oceanfree.net Instant Messenger's normal way - through the "Add Friend Request" window. You will then be able to Accept the request, Decline it, or both to Accept the users request and simultaneously add them to your Friends list. That's all there is to it. Enjoy the freedom.
